Making Change Happen

Practical change support that helps people understand, contribute to and sustain change.

The approach is simple: stop, step back and understand what is really happening before increasing the volume of change activity.

We help leaders create practical approaches that recognise resistance, involve people properly and make change achievable.

Where useful, Andrew can facilitate the conversations, workshops and alignment sessions needed to move the work forward.

Situations

Situations that bring clients here

  • A change programme is creating activity but little movement.
  • People appear resistant, quiet or unconvinced.
  • Leaders are aligned in principle but not in practice.
  • Communication is happening, but understanding is not.
  • Change feels as though it is being done to people.
  • Stakeholders were involved too late.
  • Teams need help translating ambition into practical action.
  • Business-as-usual demands leave little capacity for change.
  • Old measures or incentives are quietly restoring old behaviour.
  • The organisation needs experienced, neutral facilitation.

Beneath the surface

What may really be happening

Resistance may not be the problem.

The deeper issue often involves weak credibility, unclear direction, limited involvement, unrealistic capacity, unresolved leadership disagreement, or systems that continue rewarding the old way. Naming those honestly is usually the fastest route through.

Focus

What we help with

How we begin

How the work usually starts

Change work begins by understanding how the change is actually landing — with leaders, with those being asked to change, and with the systems that reward the current way of working.

That understanding shapes what happens next — sharper alignment, clearer involvement, better facilitation, or a different sequence of steps.

Possible inputs

  • Sponsor and senior stakeholder conversations
  • Listening sessions with affected groups
  • Diagnostic data
  • Review of the change plan and communications
  • Observation of leadership meetings
  • Review of measures and incentives that shape behaviour

Not every engagement uses every method. Inputs are chosen to fit the situation.

Formats

Ways we might work together

  • Focused diagnostic sprint
  • Leadership alignment session
  • Stakeholder listening and mapping
  • Facilitated workshops
  • Short targeted intervention
  • Change leadership coaching
  • Follow-up and progress review

Outcomes

What clients may have at the end

  • Clearer understanding of resistance
  • Better leadership alignment
  • A more practical route through change
  • Stronger stakeholder involvement
  • Clearer communication
  • Greater ownership among those affected
  • Decisions that are made, owned and followed through

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you deliver change programmes end-to-end?

Andrew can support a whole change programme or contribute to a specific part of it. Some organisations need focused help with leadership alignment, stakeholder involvement or facilitation. Others need broader support across diagnosis, planning, implementation and review.

Can you facilitate difficult stakeholder or leadership sessions?

Yes. Neutral facilitation can help people surface disagreement, clarify decisions and move beyond positions that have become fixed. The aim is not artificial consensus. It is a clearer understanding of what must be decided, owned and acted upon.

How do you handle resistance?

Resistance is treated as information rather than obstruction. It may reveal poor credibility, weak involvement, unrealistic demands, unresolved leadership disagreement or practical consequences that have not been understood. The first task is to understand what the resistance is trying to say.

How is this different from the Change Readiness Reality Check?

The Change Readiness Reality Check is a short organisational reflection that highlights where the conditions for change may be strong or weak. The paid service goes further by examining the real context, facilitating the necessary conversations and helping leaders shape a practical route through change.

Do you work with existing change or transformation teams?

Yes. Andrew can work alongside internal change, transformation, HR or organisational development teams. The role may involve independent diagnosis, facilitation, leadership alignment, challenge or additional capacity where an external perspective would help.

Can you help when a change programme is already underway?

Yes. Change support does not have to begin at the planning stage. It can be useful when a programme has stalled, leaders are no longer aligned, communication is not landing or old systems and incentives are pulling people back towards the previous way of working.

The first conversation explores your context, what may be happening beneath the surface, and whether the right next step is a focused piece of work, a broader programme or ongoing support.
