Tailored Leadership Development Programmes

Leadership development shaped around real people, real roles and the behaviours that matter most.

We help people recognise what they need to do to be successful, then guide and support them as they put new approaches into practice.

The work is shaped around the organisation, the role, the individual and the conditions leaders return to after development.

It may include well-established, professionally recognised psychometrics, 360 feedback, targeted development modules and challenging, supportive one-to-one coaching.

Situations

Situations that bring clients here

  • Managers are technically capable but need to lead with greater confidence.
  • Previous leadership development has not changed everyday behaviour enough.
  • Leaders avoid feedback, challenge or difficult conversations.
  • People are stepping into larger or more complex roles.
  • Leadership expectations are inconsistent across the organisation.
  • Growth, change or pressure is exposing leadership gaps.
  • High performers need development rather than benign neglect.
  • The organisation needs stronger leadership succession.

Beneath the surface

What may really be happening

The visible issue may look like confidence, capability or consistency.

The deeper issue often involves unclear expectations, weak feedback, excessive control, inconsistent role modelling, or leadership behaviour that quietly contradicts the stated standard. Development that ignores those conditions rarely changes behaviour once people return to work.

Focus

What we help with

Leadership development programmes may combine psychometric assessment, 360 feedback, facilitated development sessions and one-to-one leadership coaching. The exact blend depends on the role, organisational context and behaviours that need to change.

  • Leadership and management capability
  • Feedback and coaching conversations
  • Tough conversations
  • Motivation and engagement
  • Delegation and accountability
  • Influence and stakeholder relationships
  • Commercial confidence
  • Leadership style and impact
  • Self-awareness and reflection
  • Development of future leaders

How we begin

How the work usually starts

The work begins by understanding what is really happening — for the person, the role and the organisation around them — before designing the response.

That understanding shapes what the programme includes, who is involved, and how progress is reviewed after the formal input ends.

Possible inputs

  • Senior stakeholder conversations
  • Participant input
  • Psychometrics
  • 360 feedback
  • Diagnostic data
  • Observation
  • Review of role and context

Not every engagement uses every method. Inputs are chosen to fit the situation.

Formats

Ways we might work together

  • Focused diagnostic sprint
  • Facilitated leadership session
  • Short targeted intervention
  • Development programme across cohorts
  • One-to-one coaching
  • Psychometric assessment and debrief
  • Stakeholder or 360 review
  • Follow-up and progress review

Example structure

Example programme overview

How a tailored leadership development programme can be structured across a 20-week cycle.

This is one example of how a leadership development programme can be structured. The exact shape, timing and content are agreed during the tailoring phase so the work reflects the organisation’s culture, strategy, people and priorities.

Programme elements

Six interlocking parts

01

Psychometrics

Well-established, professionally recognised personality assessment to help participants understand leadership style, personal preferences and how they may respond under pressure, with confidential one-to-one feedback.

02

Participant focus group

Participants identify where they believe they need to develop using a self-assessment wheel or similar diagnostic tool. This helps surface what is already well developed and what may need to improve.

03

Leadership and management day

A focused development session setting the foundations for leading and managing in the organisation. Senior leaders may join at the end to hear feedback, reflections and emerging priorities.

04

Development modules

A series of tailored half-day or full-day modules tackling the agreed development areas identified during the tailoring phase.

05

One-to-one coaching

Confidential coaching sessions for each participant between modules, helping them apply learning, review progress and work through personal or business challenges.

06

Business challenges

Agreed business improvement areas are progressed throughout the programme, giving the work immediate relevance and helping participants apply development to real organisational priorities.

Programme schedule

20-week example cycle

The timing, content and rhythm of the programme are tailored to the organisation. The 20-week cycle is an example structure designed to maintain momentum while giving participants time to apply learning in practice.

  • Stronger self-awareness
  • More confident feedback and coaching
  • Better handling of difficult conversations

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How long does a leadership programme usually take?

The length depends on the organisation, the group and the outcomes required. Some assignments are focused interventions, while broader leadership programmes may run over several months with development modules, coaching and progress reviews.

Do you use psychometrics?

Where they help. We use professionally recognised instruments, including BPS-registered instruments where appropriate, and interpret them in context. Psychometrics are used to inform conversations about behaviour, style and impact — not to label people.

Do you work with individuals or groups?

Both. Programmes can be built around a single leader, a leadership team, or a cohort. One-to-one coaching is often used to reinforce group work.

How is progress measured?

By what actually changes in everyday leadership behaviour. Where useful, we combine self-report, 360 feedback and stakeholder review to check whether the shift is visible to the people around the leader.

What happens after the programme?

Useful development does not end with the final module. Follow-up may include coaching, progress reviews, sponsor conversations, action planning or further support to help new behaviour become part of everyday leadership.

What is the difference between the Leadership Practice Review and this service?

The Leadership Practice Review is a free, immediate reflection on the leadership conditions across your organisation. This service is the paid, tailored development work that follows once the underlying picture is understood.

Next step

A short, confidential conversation about your context.

The first conversation explores your context, what may be happening beneath the surface, and whether the right next step is a focused piece of work, a broader programme or ongoing support.
